65-year-old Barbara Warren, an elite triathlete died last Tuesday when she crashed her bike on a downhill road that broke her neck during the Santa Barbara Triathlon. Barbara and her twin Angelika Drake are a well-known pair, who won or placed in their age-group for numerous events.

Warren, as a result of the crash, was paralyzed and had to breathe with the help of a ventilator. Through blinking and nodding she told her family to take her off the ventilator.

Tom-Warren's husband, her two daughters, and her twin sister were with her when she died.

Warren won the 2003 Ironman Triathlon World Championship, which is hosted in Hawaii, for her age group. She participated in and completed the Ironman 13 times, finishing in the top five eight times.
