Top 10 Movies at the box office for the summer:
Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy comes at 10. The movie was adapted from a comic book. The movie grossed about $133.7 million and opened at $51 million on the opening weekend, more than had been expected.
The Incredible Hulk came in at 9 at $134.4 million. Edward Norton, as the Hulk, and Liv Tyler starred in this new adaptation of Marvel Comic's the Hulk. This version grossed $2 million more than the first movie starring Eric Bana.
Coming in at number 8 is The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, a film adaptation to CS Lewis's book. It is the sequel to The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Prince Caspian grossed $141.5 million.
Number 7 is the movie version of Sex and the City starring Sarah Jessica Parker. The movie grossed $152.3 million.
Dreamworks' movie Kung Fu Panda slid into 6 with $212.6 million. The cartoon had major actors such as Dennis Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, and Jack Black lending their voices to the characters.
Wall-E, a Disney Pixar movie, ranks in at 5 with $216.2 million. The movie didn't have any celebrity voices, still it grossed $63 million it's opening weekend, and overall grossed $2 million more than last summer Ratatouille.
At number 4 is Hancock starring Will Smith, Charlize Theron, and Jason Bateman. Hancock was Will Smith's fifth movie to open #1 during the 4th of July weekend. Hancock is also Will Smith's fourth-highest earning movie. The movie grossed, overall $226.3 million.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes in at number 3, starring Harrison Ford, once again, after nineteen years, as Dr. Indiana Jones. This movie was the highest grossing of all four. The fourth installment saw a gross of $315.3 million.
Ironman takes the number 2 spot, grossing $317.5 million. Ironman, starring Robert Downey, Jr., about a character no one really knew about, was the first hit of the summer.
And surprise, surprise or rather not....number 1 is:
You should have known, The Dark Knight starring Christian Bale, the late Heath Ledger, and Aaron Eckhart. The movie has grossed $489.4 million, and is still in theatres. The long anticipated Dark Knight out grossed the first movie in only 6 days and is now the second-highest grossing movie...of all time.
