Volunteers are going door to door in California to show support for a ballot that would ban gay marriages in that state.

The volunteers are estimated at 15,000. A majority of them are Mormon, Catholic, as well as evangelical Christians. They are knocking on doors, as well distributing pamphlets to registered voters. Their goal is to poll individuals and inform them on what could happen if the ballot were to be outvoted.

The ballot, entitled Proposition 8, is actually a constitutional amendment, which will overturn the decision the Supreme Court in California made earlier this year. In order for the proposition to pass, it just needs a majority of the votes.

Already 26 other states in the nation have an amendment similar to Proposition 8.
