After the collaspse of a large mortgage lender in California, analysts believe that dozens of banks across the nation will close during the next year.

The cause of the failing banks have to do with the decline of home prices and with the rise of loan defaults.

The banks are in less danger than they were in the late 80s and early 90s, though when 1,000 federal institutions failed, costing taxpayers $125 billion. Now, as many as 150 out of 7,500 small and mid-size banks nationwide are in danger of failing.

Analysts are attempting to discover which bank is going to be next, as well as just how many will fall.
